Workshop: Parallel Computing with MATLAB on the Lichtenberg Cluster

20.10. + 3.11.: Speed up your MATLAB programs

This 2-day workshop will take place on October 20th and November 3rd, 2021. This workshop is for researchers at TU Darmstadt that want to use parallel and GPU computing in MATLAB, and to scale their computations to the Lichtenberg HPC cluster.

Organized by Robert Feldmann (SAM) and Mathworks in close cooperation with the TU Darmstadt HRZ/HPC group, this workshop will introduce you to parallel high performance computing with MATLAB on the Linux Cluster.

The presentation will be held online and in English. Registration is required (see below).

Workshop content

October 20th, 14:00 – 17:00: Parallel Computing with MATLAB on the desktop

This hands-on session will focus on speeding up MATLAB on the desktop with Parallel Computing Toolbox. You will learn about simple and advanced parallel programming constructs in MATLAB and review best coding practices for robust and fast code. After a short lecture, you will work on self-paced exercises.

November 3rd, 14:00 – 16:00: Scaling Parallel Computing with MATLAB to the Lichtenberg HPC cluster

This hands-on session will focus on running MATLAB parallel code on the Lichtenberg cluster. You will be granted access to the Lichtenberg cluster and learn to run efficient parallel MATLAB jobs on the cluster. Special attention is given to remote submission i.e. running a local MATLAB client on your desktop PC, and conveniently submitting batch jobs to the cluster without much manual or command line work.
