Change of leadership at the University Computing Centre

2022/01/27

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert De Gersem, Vice President for Scientific Infrastructure and Digitisation, thanks Prof. Christian Bischof and acknowledges his many years of commitment to the University Computer Centre at TU Darmstadt.

On 1 January 2022, Prof. Christian Bischof stepped down as head of the University Computing Centre (Hochschulrechenzentrum – HRZ) for personal reasons. The management of the HRZ has been taken over by his previous deputy Anna Schindler on an interim basis. Her deputy will be Dr Andreas Schönfeld, who also heads the Basic Services Department at the HRZ. “I am extremely grateful to Christian Bischof for his achievements and everything he has brought forward and implemented for the University Computing Centre and TU Darmstadt over the past years. From a professional point of view, I regret his decision to resign as head of the University Computer Centre for personal reasons, but I can absolutely understand this on a personal level and wish him all the best, both professionally and privately. I am very pleased that he will remain with us, among other things, at his Chair of Scientific Computing in the Department of Computer Science and as a spokesperson for various organisations to which the TU Darmstadt belongs,” says Vice President De Gersem.

Christian Bischof took over the management of the HRZ in July 2011 and, in addition to his professorship in the field of scientific computing, is also spokesperson for the HKHLR (Hessian Competence Centre for High Performance Computing) and the NHR4CES (National High Performance Computing Center for Computational Engineering Sciences), among other things, as well as a member of the NFDI4Ing consortium (National Research Data Infrastructure for Engineering Sciences). Until now, Anna Schindler headed the Organisation and Resources Department of the HRZ, which will now be taken over by Anna Kromer-Pszonicka on an interim basis.

“Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic situation, we cannot say goodbye to Christian Bischof as he deserves. As soon as the situation allows it again, however, this will certainly be made up for in an appropriately festive setting,” Vice-President De Gersem adds.
