Two eduroam entries in Windows
Note on the entry “eduroam registered” (eduroam®)
2025/11/12
In Windows, when connecting to wireless networks, you may see both “eduroam” and “eduroam®”. This may appear suspicious at first glance, but it is harmless if you have previously used an older version of the “eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT)” for automatic Wi-Fi configuration.
Some Windows devices display two eduroam entries in the list of available Wi-Fi networks: “eduroam” and “eduroam®”. These are not two different wireless networks, but two saved profiles that are available in the Wi-Fi connection window.
The “eduroam®” profile originates from an older version of the CAT tool, which automatically assigned this name during configuration. Therefore, the duplicate entry is not an indication of a security issue, but simply the result of differently created Wi-Fi profiles.
If the message with the two profiles appears, we recommend recreating the Wi-Fi profiles using the current Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT). For computers managed by the HRZ, please install the eduroam CAT Tool version 2.1 from the software depot and set up the profile again.
Should you encounter any problems during installation, please contact the HRZ Service via the contact form or by telephone on 16-71112.
Further information about eduroam as well as instructions for setting it up can be found on the HRZ Wi-Fi service website.
