Two-factor authentication: Cisco Jabber requires TOTP or HOTP tokens
2025/12/12
For Cisco Jabber, a TOTP or HOTP token is required when two-factor authentication is enabled. WebAuthn is not supported.
When two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled, Cisco Jabber (opens in new tab) (telephony, chat function, video call) requires a TOTP or HOTP token. The reason for this is that Cisco Jabber does not support WebAuthn-based login and can therefore only be secured via TOTP or HOTP tokens.
To ensure access at all times – for example, when changing devices or losing a token – the universitiy computing centre recommends setting up at least two tokens. The optimal solution is to combine a TOTP on your smartphone (via the Authenticator app) with an additional TOTP token in your password manager.
To check which type of token you have set up:
- Open the 2FA management (opens in new tab) and log in.
- Click „Weiter“.
- In the column „Typ“ you can see which type of token you have activated. There should be at least one TOTP or HOTP token here. If you only find a token of the type „WebAuthn“ there, please follow the instructions (opens in new tab) to roll out another token.
