HRZ launches TUDaGPT: New AI-supported chat application from TU Darmstadt
Now available for use in studies, research, teaching and administration
2026/02/09
The University Computing Centre (HRZ) is expanding its service offering with a new AI-supported chat application called TUDaGPT. The service is available to all members of TU Darmstadt and offers a wide range of support for everyday university life.
In cooperation with Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG), the HRZ has set up TUDaGPT (opens in new tab) specifically for TU Darmstadt. The application is based on an open source solution and is hosted on servers within the university environment. TUDaGPT thus meets high standards of data protection and IT security (opens in new tab). The chat history can only be decrypted and viewed by users on their own devices, ensuring that the confidentiality of the data entered is maintained at all times.
TUDaGPT offers a wide range of support for studies, research, teaching and administration and provides users with a web-based chat interface where they can ask questions, draft texts or describe tasks. The AI models' responses are displayed directly in the chat and can be explored in more depth in the dialogue. There are several AI models to choose from, which can be switched depending on the query. It is also possible to chat in group chats and involve the generative AI. Interaction with the AI models via external programmes is possible via the API interface provided.
TUDaGPT is only accessible within the TU network. You can log in using single sign-on with your TU ID and password.
The HRZ invites all members of TU Darmstadt to try out TUDaGPT and discover how it can support them in their everyday university life.
Course offering in preparation: AI basics for university practice
Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in everyday university life. In order to provide TU Darmstadt employees with the best possible support in the responsible use of AI tools, the course „AI basics for university practice“ is currently being developed.
The course teaches basic knowledge of generative AI, provides an introduction to effective prompting, and shows practical application examples from teaching, research, administration and study.
The course is jointly organised by the Digital Transformation Office (DTO), the University Computing Centre (HRZ) and the Human Resources and Organisational Development team at TU Darmstadt.
We will inform you here as soon as the course is available.
