Configuration and authentication

Please always plug the cable into the far right connector as shown in the picture!

Note for Windows 8 users

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard to go to the home screen.
  • Press the Windows key and R simultaneously.
  • Type services.msc in the field, and then click OK .
  • Follow the instructions for Windows 7.
  • Windows 7: Click on the start menu and enter “Services” in the search box.
  • Select the item “Show local services”.
  • Right-click on the “Properties” of the service “Automatic configuration (wired)” and change the start type to “Automatic”. Then start the service with a click on “Start”.
  • Now the service will also be restarted automatically when the computer is started. Keep in mind that this may not always be wanted – for example, if you want to use other cable network connections. It is most important that the service has been started, while the exact type of start is not important.

Note for Windows 8 users

  • Press the Windows key again.
  • Press the Windows key and R simultaneously.
  • Type control netconnections in the box and press OK .
  • Follow the instructions for Windows 7.
  • Windows 7: Open the “LAN connection” properties by right-clicking on the “Control Panel” > “Network and Internet Network and Sharing Centre” > “Change adapter settings”.
  • Now go to the “Authentication” tab. Note that this is only displayed if the service mentioned above has been started. Now change the settings according to the screenshot.
  • Click the “Settings” button (see figure 3) and change the settings according to the picture on the right.
  • Then click on “Configure” in the “Select authentication method” section and in the “EAP-MSCHAPv2 Properties” window that opens, remove the only check mark – if set.
  • Now click on “Additional settings” in the “LAN connection properties” window (see Fig. 3). Change the authentication mode as shown in the screenshot on the right.
  • In the “LAN Connection Properties” window, select the “Network” tab and display the properties of the Internet Protocol “Version 4”.
  • In the “General” tab, select the following items: “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.
  • After closing all open windows and connecting your PC to the network, a message appears requiring you to enter additional information (access data). Enter your TU-ID and the corresponding password. As network location (selection form appears after login) you can select the “Public place”.
