Malfunction at the central mail gateway of the TU Darmstadt

External e-mails could not be delivered on 23.03.2023 from approx. 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

2023/03/23

Due to a malfunction at the central mail gateway of the TU, incoming e-mails from outside were rejected by means of an automated notification during the mentioned period.

Due to the malfunction of the central mail gateway, senders received an e-mail, usually in English, stating that the message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. At the end of this email, there is technical information that the email contains a virus. The sender address of these messages is usually MAILER-DAEMON@Mailserver-Ihres-Providers.de.

E-mails have to be resent because there is no subsequent delivery.

Rejected e-mails are not automatically delivered later.

External senders should therefore resend the e-mails they sent to recipients and functional addresses at the TU Darmstadt during the period mentioned.

Outgoing and TU-internal e-mail traffic was not affected.

The notification text is typically as follows:

Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

This is the mail system at host hostname.ihr-provider.de.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message.
