Launch of next.Hessenbox

The new, modern Sync & Share service will be available from 17.02.2025.

next.Hessenbox – the successor service to Hessenbox DA – will be available from 17.02.2025. Act now to ensure a smooth transition!

As previously announced (see HRZ News from 07.11.2024 ), the serviceHessenbox DA will be replaced by a modern and future-proof system. The launch of next.Hessenbox is now scheduled for 17.02.2025.

As a user of the service Hessenbox DA, if you have created your own folders and files (as the owner), you need to take action yourself. Your data must be migrated to the next.Hessenbox by 30.06.2025 at the latest (you will find the instructions below in the section ‘How do I migrate the data?’). Please also ensure that you inform your external project partners about the migration.

Users who access data owned by others do not need to take any further action. They will automatically receive a new release link once the owner has migrated the data and assigned the necessary permissions.

Both systems will run in parallel until 30.06.2025, giving you sufficient time to transfer your folders and files from Hessenbox DA to next.Hessenbox.

Important milestones:

  • From 30.04.2025: Hessenbox DA switches to read-only mode – no more new uploads or changes possible, but downloads remain available
  • On 30.06.2025: Hessenbox DA will be deactivated

Please migrate your data in a timely manner to ensure a smooth transition.

The next.Hessenbox can be accessed via the web browser https://next.hessenbox.de/

Select Technische Universität Darmstadt at the bottom of the homepage and log in using your TU-ID and personal password.

Step 1: Migrate data

There are two ways to migrate your folders and files. The owners must take action for both options:

  1. Manual migration: Migrate all the folders you own and still need to the next.Hessenbox yourself. This option is available from now until 30.06.2025. You can find detailed step-by-step instructions here Manual migration instructions
  2. Server-side supported migration: If you prefer to have the process run in the background, you can start an automated process that will copy all the folders you own to the next.Hessenbox. This option will be available to you from 10.03.2025 until 30.06.2025. You will find the instructions for this by 10.03.2025 at the latest here Instructions for server-side support

Step 2: Grant access

In both migration procedures, only your folders and files are transferred. In the new system, these will initially only be visible to you. If you wish to share folders with others, you must set up the permissions again in next.Hessenbox, as these cannot be transferred automatically. Service next.Hessenbox

The service next.Hessenbox is based on the open-source software NextCloud and offers a range of new features and improvements that enhance both sharing and collaboration. Detailed information on the new service can be found on our next.Hessenbox service website and in our HRZ News from 7.11.2024 .
