The Lichtenberg high-performance computer is available for scientific work at TU Darmstadt. The versatile architecture of the high-performance computer offers the best conditions for flexible and efficient utilisation for computationally intensive applications.

The System Operations group provides the basis for a wide range of IT services at the HRZ and TU Darmstadt. These include the server hardware, the central storage systems and the virtualisation environment. The group also manages standardised Windows and Linux operating systems, which are used by additional services such as groupware, web servers and TUCaN.

The Media Services group at the HRZ is responsible for operating the multimedia infrastructure (e.g. projectors, microphones) in the central lecture theatres and seminar rooms at TU Darmstadt. The lecture theatres are almost fully equipped with permanently installed media devices; mobile devices can be borrowed for other occasions.

The group provides the necessary servers for the distribution of video streams on the Internet. This enables live broadcasts of events or video-on-demand, for example. Lecture recordings are also made available on these servers.

The Software Management team coordinates the central software licence agreements at TU Darmstadt. In this context, the team is responsible for determining requirements, procurement, distribution and billing of licences. In addition, users are advised on licensing issues. It is also in charge of the software asset management project (SAM project) of the HRZ and TU Darmstadt.
