Telephone availability and status of TUDa's new telephone system

2024/01/25

Start of the introduction of the new UC communication system with the tender in 2024.

In one of the last staff council meetings and in the current newsletter of the staff council (Impuls issue winter 2023/2024), employees called for reliable telephone accessibility. The University Computing Centre will address this issue in 2024 by replacing the outdated telephone systems used at TU Darmstadt and is planning to introduce a standardised solution for internal and external voice communication in 2024.

To this end, the required performance features were developed with various user groups in the course of several workshops in 2023 and incorporated into the catalogue of requirements for a new telephone system. A new voice and communication system can now be put out to tender in the 1st quarter of 2024. Following the selection and introduction of a new system, all employees will be migrated from the previous telephone systems to the new standardised solution so that the outdated existing systems can be replaced and the availability of all employees can be increased again.

Support for telephone client “Jabber”

The staff meeting also explicitly criticised the reliability of the mobile IP telephone client “Jabber” currently in use. In addition to connection problems, poor voice quality was also reported. As there are usually solutions to these problems, we would like to refer you once again to our web pages on the Jabber client . If the website as well as the instructions and FAQs could not help with the problem, please contact us via our contact form so that we can provide you with targeted support in solving the problem.
