Connect next.Hessenbox as a Network Drive under “This PC”

This guide explains how to find the WebDAV address for next.Hessenbox and use it to connect next.Hessenbox as a network drive in Windows under “This PC.”

Step 1: Finding the WebDAV Address

  1. Log in to the web interface at https://next.hessenbox.de with your TU-ID.
  2. Go to “Files” in the left menu.
  3. Click the gear icon at the bottom left (“File Settings”).
  4. Copy your personal WebDAV address, which is in this format:
    https://next.hessenbox.de/remote.php/dav/files/abc123@tu-darmstadt.de/
  5. Note this address for the next step.

Important Note: Regular login credentials cannot be used for WebDAV authentication. Create a separate app password:

  • In the web interface, click on your profile picture and go to “Settings” > “Security” > “Devices & Sessions.”
  • Click “Create App Password,” enter a name (e.g., “WebDAV”), and note the generated email address and password (these are exclusively for the WebDAV connection).

Step 2: Set up a WebDAV connection under “This PC”

  1. Open Windows Explorer (Win + E) and right-click on “This PC.”
  2. Select “Add a network location.” (Image 2)
  3. Choose an available drive letter (e.g., X:), if the option is available or required.
  4. Enter the WebDAV address from Step 1 as the internet or network address, e.g.:
    https://next.hessenbox.de/remote.php/dav/files/abc123@tu-darmstadt.de/
  5. Check the box for “Reconnect at sign-in.”
  6. Log in with the generated email address and app password (from Step 1).
  7. The folder will now appear under “This PC” as a network drive or mounted folder.
