Access to vDesk will only be possible with an additional security code in future

At the end of 2025, two-factor authentication (2FA) was made mandatory at TU Darmstadt. In this context, from 9 March 2026, the virtual desktop environment (vDesk) will also be converted to mandatory two-factor authentication for logins – i.e. with a password and an additional security code (e.g. via smartphone).

Great success for vocational IT training at TU Darmstadt: former trainee Christopher Fronober was awarded the ‘Prize for Special Achievements in Training’ in December 2025 for his outstanding achievements. His project combines technical excellence with sustainable added value for research and teaching.

During the specified period TUCaN will not be available due to the renewal of the hardware infrastructure and an extensive system update. As part of this update TUCaN will be connected to the central single sign on system (SSO) of TU Darmstadt. After completion of the update the two factor authentication set up in the IDM portal can also be used to log in to TUCaN.

Apprenticeship completed, start of professional life

Six trainees have completed their IT training at TU Darmstadt and begin a new phase of their professional journey.

During the specified period version 5.3.11 will be installed on most eLab servers. In addition, a security update for SAML will be applied.

In future, the Athena Card will only be issued when required. Existing cards will remain usable while alternative solutions are gradually developed.
